50th Merdeka in Malaysia
The media is blasting with Merdeka Snippets , songs and story… Everyone is looking forward celebrating the country’s most awaited event.. but before we celebrate..lets ponder..
Today I was talking to my aunt whom im staying with.. She was sharing some of hardship that she underwent those days . In conjuction of Merdeka 50 Years I thought this is worth sharing with young generation.She started on foods…Her lunch was merely porridge with dried prawns , Rice with Kopi O (can u imagine that), Steamed sweet potato and sometimes starving. She used to work in Chicken coup , collecting eggs and feeding them. She needs to withstand the horrible smells of sh*t which need to be collected as fertilizer. Her house has no electricity so revising studies at night is out of question, but with the help of churning oil lamps. Forget about new clothing.. she hardly sees them. Her mother was working in rubber factory, detaching the glued rubbers. Her toes user to fllap out of her school shoes and due to difficulties she couldn’t continue her studies. She really went through hardship compared to all her sisters. Although being a chinese she has adapted the Indian culture after tying knot to my uncle.
Let’s flash back.. Not only my aunt , most of our parents, fore father’s went through the same fate. My dad used to say that he used to walk 15KM to school but nowdays children wants to drive car in the University 
. They didn’t enjoy much luxury during their time and even now they are leading simple life, some of them has not even manouevered Internet in their life or any techie gadgets !! What they really emphazised was merely to give valuable education to their children. In good old days the old parents are well taken care off and the stay with their children untill the last breathe, also there isn’t much Old Folks home around but now after all the luxuries comes , we could see Old Folks home is more like a commodity money making resort !! Their childrens are going after leisure and money forgetting simple values in life….. Although Malaysia has got IT’S Independent 50 years back , ARE we independent in term of our thinking ? Do we value our parents whom has gone hardships and seen through the country evolve ?? Is your Parents enjoying all the luxury that we’re Enjoying now ?? DO they really ….Ask yourself..:) Happy Merdeka !!
